Located thirty-four miles east of Bend and operated by the University of Oregon, Pine Mountain Observatory seeks volunteer docents to help with public outreach and teacher training activities. Your teaching experience and dedication to public education is highly desired.
Our public programs begin on Memorial Day and run
through the end of September each year.
Friday and Saturday evening observing and lectures are
open to the public.
By advanced appointment, we provide various groups
with educational experiences and appreciation for astronomy
and science during our evening hours of operation.
Complete training is provided, including telescope operation.
Here is a cool youtube link taken by a visitor to PMO last year. Get through the first minute or so of Crater Lake and then it gets to a visit to PMO. This is the kind of thing you can expect when you spend time at PMO! We hope you can join us this summer.

Training for the 2009 season volunteers will start in May. We will send out training notice dates to members as soon as the snow has melted. We also have several very nice telescopes that need summer operators. If you like to talk to the public this would be a good place to volunteer. We are looking forward to meeting new people who feel that public education in the sciences is a worthwhile goal!
