In August, astronauts aboard the space shuttle Atlantis will carry out one of the most difficult repairs in history, restoring the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to full working order.

Dr Chris Lintott, University of Oxford and co-presenter on the Sky at Night, will talk about how scientists overcame the teething troubles with the HST and went on to use the Telescope to make some of the most significant discoveries of modern times.

The lecture will take place at the Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly W1J 0BQ.

Time: 1300 (doors open 1245)

Admission: free - but seats are on a first-come first-served basis.

    Enjoyed the talk as it was well presented - Dr Chris Lintott is an eloquent presenter - the hour was up even before you realised it. Wonderful, detailed photography of the stars, galaxies etc which was facinating!!! Got a good understanding of the Hubble."
